FRITZ: Just this for today.
SHANE: Oh, that's a nice one. I thought your bosses paid for this sorta stuff?
FRITZ: With the downsizing I figured I'd go ahead on my personal project..
FRITZ: This is for my new office.
SHANE: Huh, figured you of all people would be spared from that.
FRITZ: Hah! Probably. I'm not like the suits though. Figure it'd be easier to take the boys and my severance and start something we'd feel more appreciated at anyhow.
SHANE: That freedom's sure gonna be nice at least, huh?
FRITZ: Say, you've been here for a while.. Anything stopping you from getting outta sales? Into a real tech job at least?
SHANE: Oh, well, ah.. I'm good enough I guess, most places demand degrees though.. That and my older work probably wouldn't make any companies exactly happy to hire me..
FRITZ: Come on, you've heard my horror stories. This bubble ain't poppin' anytime soon, surely you can't have fucked up THAT bad.
SHANE: Ehh.. Y'know ConnectID?
FRITZ: Sure. I think XCO partnered with them for a bit. Before all that mess, at least.
SHANE: Well, I used to be in entertainment..
SHANE: Briefly. I did a couple commercials for 'em. Only one of them made it to air though.
FRITZ: Wait, don't tell me.. Gahaha! Is that why I keep thinking you sound familiar?!
SHANE: Sigh.. Spam Likely would have been my big break too. The agency just wasn't a fan of me.
FRITZ: They didn't boot you for the shit with ConnectID, did they?
SHANE: No, no! It was, ah.. around the time I started treatment. They used some legal loopholes so the paper trails couldn't prove they worked with me. As bad as ConnectID's business was, I think they thought having someone like me working for them would just bring more bad press.
FRITZ: What a bunch of clowns.
SHANE: It's probably for the best. Retail isn't great, but I'd take this over Hollywood bullshit any day.
FRITZ: Well, I don't see how that affects a tech job if there ain't public ties. You considered it?
SHANE: .. Fritz, what are you asking?
FRITZ: I've seen how customers treat you, I know you want out.. My company's looking for names.
SHANE: A-are you sure?! I mean, I know I said I dabbled in web development, but don't y'all do real programming?
FRITZ: All my boys are good, but with all of us working on new material we need someone to help build our face. You can even put your name on it if you want.
SHANE: I, uh.. I'd certainly consider it. I'd need to brush up on my HTML going into 2.0 though..
FRITZ: You can start as our intern if a full web dev title makes ya nervous. Don't worry about lack of experience. Some of our best have only been on a few months.
SHANE: Huh. Wow. I, uh.. When would you want me to start?
FRITZ: When were you planning on quitting?
SHANE: I dunno, my shift doesn't end til-
FRITZ: You got a pen and paper?
FRITZ: I'm taking this to the new building. Here's the address, if you wanna follow me.
SHANE: Th.. Thank you?
FRITZ: We're still setting up so we won't be doing much for a couple weeks, but I'll be cleaning up. You should come check it out.
SHANE: I..
SHANE: I'll see you in a few.
