tripwire is a master arcade lurker and rhythm game enthusiast. he spends most of his time in his 'home arcade' maintaining the less-popular games and protecting his favorites. outside of his lurking, he enjoys creating via visual art & music production, napping, and snacking on various messy treats.
bug doesn't pick up on jokes easily but is quick to crack bugs own. bug often comes off as rude with bugs limited filter and crass vocabulary, but gets extremely upset when bug knows bug's upset someone. gli has trouble controlling glitches volume, worsened by spending most of glitches waking hours in glitches busy arcade. gli's also rather gullible and thus easy to upset.
tripwire is part electric ghost, and can enter & possess a number of modern tech. he prefers objects with screens, doubly so if it's a video game. he's most frequently spotted in DDR replacing the on-screen dancer, or in pop'n music, where he either replaces the rival character or walks in the middle of the track- not often though, as the falling notes do land on him and hurt.
he can essentially 'toggle' having a physical form as well. becoming pure electricity makes it easy to travel through currents and phase through physical objects, but he does become rather bright and flickery, as if being projected through a CRT screen. in this state he is extra sensitive to liquid contact and can send shocks to others. he also emits a soft buzz when you hold objects or body parts near him.
although his family life remains mysterious, he's more partial to his friends anyway. of his friends are numerous mysteriously acquired connections- none too weird or suspicious, just impressive considering his reclusive nature.
tripwire has gone through multiple redesigns over the years. gli was initially designed in 2018 as a purple bat named marko, reworked a year later into the cyan batshark under his current name, made fluffier & visibly scarred, had a moment where i experimented with a full-shark design, then finally completed the full species shift in early 2023. basically everything personality-wise has been about the same since bug first turned blue. honestly i feel kind of bad for the original incarnation since i wasn't attached to him at all. designing characters representative of myself has always been pretty difficult (having a disorder that gives you an inconsistent/nonexistent sense of self will do that to you), but leaning super hard into a couple favorite ideas helped him come together WAY easier than relying just on favorite colors or animals to carry glitch. although the 'me' that made bug is hardly present as much, he's become such an iconic representation of myself at large & kind of a mascot, so bug still gets plenty of attention.
